Clinical Methodology & Significance
The Mitral INsufficiency Echocardiographic (MINE) scoring system is an objective, validated, multi-parametric tool designed to predict outcome and cardiac death risk in canine patients suffering from Myxomatous Mitral Valve Disease (MMVD).
MINE 1 (Vezzosi 2021): Evaluates structural remodel tracking markers alongside active systolic and diastolic profiles (LA:Ao, LVIDdn, FS%, and Transmitral E-wave velocity). Scores scale from 4 to 14 points.
MINE 2 (Vezzosi 2025): A simplified model designed to isolate independent structural variables without compromising performance should a clear Fractional Shortening window be compromised or artifact-heavy. Scores scale from 3 to 12 points.
